Smothered Turkey Wings

Smothered Turkey Wings

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs turkey wings legs or thighs
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dry thyme
  • 2 tbsp of seasoned salt
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 cups chicken or turkey broth
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • Parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. In a bowl, mix together the garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, seasoned salt, salt, and black pepper.
3. Pat the turkey wings dry with paper towels, then season them with the spice mixture.
4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the turkey wings and brown on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the wings from the skillet and set aside.
5. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk constantly to make a roux. Cook the roux for about 5 minutes, or until it turns a light golden brown.
6. Slowly whisk in the chicken or turkey broth, making sure there are no lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for another 2-3 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
7. Add the chopped onion to the gravy and stir to combine.
8. Place the turkey wings in a baking dish and pour the gravy over them.
9. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until the turkey wings are tender and cooked through.
10. Remove the foil and broil for an additional 5-10 minutes to crisp up the skin, if desired.
11. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving, if desired.
